A free flu vaccine is available in Hounslow for eligible South Asian residents

This year even more Asian and Asian British people living in Hounslow are not having the free flu vaccination.

Why get vaccinated

Our Asian community are at a higher incidence risk of influenza compared to other ethnic groups and are more likely to experience severe complications from the flu, leading to hospitalisation and death. This increased risk is attributed to various factors, including many of our South Asian community living with long-term health conditions.

Getting vaccinated can prevent you and others from becoming seriously ill and needing hospital treatment, if you get Covid-19 or flu.

You will also be helping to slow the spread of these viruses throughout your wider community, which will help to protect elderly and vulnerable people, including family members who live with you and who you may look after.

By looking after yourself and getting vaccinated you will not only be helping keep your loved ones safe, you will also be supporting our local medical services, which will be under great pressure during the winter months.

A free flu vaccination is also available for your child

Children can also get sick from flu and pass it on easily to others.

That’s why a free flu vaccine is offered to all children aged 2 to 16.

This year, all children can get the quick and painless nasal spray flu vaccine instead of a needle injection. However, there is a pork gelatine free alternative available as an injection. The vaccination is totally free and recommended for all school aged children.

If your child is unable to receive the vaccination in school, you can book an appointment for them in one of Hounslow’s community clinics.

If you are unable to accept the porcine gelatine nasal spray you will be able to request the Injectable Flu vaccine when you book your appointment.

Has your child missed their vaccination at school ?

Vaccination UK are running 4 catch up clinics in Hounslow in November (13th and 27th) and December (6th and 18th).

Your child will be offered a free flu vaccine as well as DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus & Polio), Meningitis ACWY, MMR and HPV (check with your local team).
